Social History — 1981
Badge, lapel badge
This badge's slogan 'Protest and Survive' is a parody of the British government's 'Protect and Survive' civil defence campaign. 'Protect and Survive' took the form of a pamphlet and a public information film that advised the British public on what to do in the event of a nuclear war. The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) adopted the slogan 'Protest and Survive' from the title of a pamphlet on the nuclear arms race written by the historian and peace campaigner E.P. Thompson in 1981.
