Social History — 1957
Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green Public Baths, Regulations
In 1898 the first public baths and washhouses in Bethnal Green were built in Cheshire Street. In 1929, York Hall public baths were opened on Old Ford Road.
As well as offering hot bath and laundry facilities, public baths often included swimming pools, Turkish and vapour baths. Local residents used the facilities and rules and regulations were strictly enforced.
