Fire engine
This twin cylinder portable manual fire engine was built by Samuel Phillips who established himself as a fire engine manufacturer in Southwark in the second half of the eighteenth century. His business would later become the famous London fire engineering firm Shand Mason and Company. This portable manual fire engine was acquired by Shand Mason's great rivals, Merryweather and Sons, who took over the company in 1922.
