Arrowhead, barbed and tanged arrowhead
An Early Bronze Age flint barbed and tanged arrowhead, dating 1,800 BCE. One of a group of six flint arrowheads found with the remains of a dismembered wild ox or aurochs buried in a deep pit. Scientific analysis of the arrowheads has located microscopic traces of animal fats and of beeswax - the latter perhaps used to help secure the arrowheads to their wooden shafts.
This deliberate burial of arrowheads with the young aurochs may have marked a change in use of the land, from uncultivated to fields.
