Abbildung der Statt London, sambt dem erschrocklichen brandt daselsten
A line engraving by Matthaus Merian the Younger (1621-1687) of a view of London from Southwark during the Great Fire of 1666. Produced in 1670 in Frankfurt, it demonstrates the interest there was in the Great Fire throughout Europe. A key identifies the major buildings even those obscured by the flames. The titles of the buildings are Germanied which include strange names such as Boo Church complete with umlaut.
