Tallis's London street views : No. 12. Regent Street, division 3
Issue number 12 of Tallis's 'London street views' showing nos. 45-167 and 52-168 Regent Street. At 47-49 can be seen Swan & Edgar, silk mercers, linen drapers, hosiers, etc. Founded in 1812 by William Edgar and George Swan the shop evolved over time to become one of London's large department stores. By the end of the nineteenth century it was a popular shop selling high quality goods and was one of the stores attacked by suffragettes in 1912.
