This driving licence, issued by the London County Council on 10 March 1905, enabled the holder to drive a motorcar or motorcycle for the period of 12 months.
Although the owner went to the trouble of applying for a licence, driving tests were not compulsory in the UK until 1935. Anyone over the age of 17 could simply get in a car and drive away.
