Newscutting from The Graphic, dated February 3rd 1872. With black and white illustrations of 'The Communist Refugees Co-operative Kitchen in Newman Passage'. This kitchen and dining room situated off Tottenham Court Road was a meeting place for French revolutionaries who had fled Paris after the failed revolution of April 1871. Here the refugees, could enjoy a simple dish of meat, eaten without cutlery and discuss politics, past glories and condemn the French National Assembly.
