The War: French Refugees in London
Illustrated cutting from 'The Illustrated London News', 8 October 1870, captioned 'The War: French Refugees in London', signed by 'Barnard'. It depicts French refugees who have escaped from the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71 and are plying a London policeman with questions. The accompanying text comments on 'the wandering groups of bewildered refugees who are now frequently to be met with in the neighbourhood of Leicester-square and other familiar quarters of London [...] Let us hope that the speedy return of peace will restore these unlucky people to their homes.'
