The Skylon from the Transport Pavilion under construction, South Bank
This photo was taken by Henry Grant during the construction of the South Bank exhibition for the Festival of Britain, 1951. The view looks out through the great sliding windows of the Transport Pavilion. This innovative structure was designed by Arcon. One of the exhibits for the aviation displays can also be seen. Through the open windows the distinctive shape of the half-built Skylon tower is visible. This was designed by the architects Powell and Moya.
