Construction of the Dome of Discovery for the Festival of Britain
The Dome of Discovery was one of the most dramatic structures built for the Festival of Britain in 1951. it was the largest Dome in the world at that time measuring 365 feet in diameter. Architect Ralph Tubbs designed the Dome so that the parts could be prefabricated, transported to the site and erected easily and economically. The foundations, floors and internal structures were made from concrete and the Dome was clad in Aluminum giving it a futuristic look.
