Printed Ephemera — 1865-1880
Her Wedding
Sheet music for the popular music hall 'Her wedding' written and composed by Bracey Vane and sung by Alfred Vance. The colour chromolithographed cover by the lithographer Alfred Concanen is printed with an illustration of The Great Vance dressed typically in a fashionable grey suit.
Alfred, The Great Vance was one of the fashionable 'swells' of the music hall, known collectively as the Lions Comiques. Along with George Leybourne and Arthur Lloyd, The Great Vance was famous for parodying 'swells' and upper class 'toffs.' The fashionable evening dress of the Lions Comiques performers contrasted greatly with the cloth-cap coster cockney image adopted by many other music hall performers.
