Bow Brewery
This is the yard at Bow Brewery in East London where brewer George Hodgson worked. During the 1780s, he modified the pale ale manufactured here especially for export to India, to capture the expatriate market. His new type of beer contained an increased amount of hops and alcohol. These helped to preserve the flavour of the beer on its long journey through hot climates.
