Printed Ephemera — 1860-1869
Card, valentine card
Comic valentine's card printed as a woodcut on cheap paper with a caricature of a woman pushing a pram, out of which a child is falling. The print is crudely coloured and below is printed a verse, 'Pert Nurserymaid who in the street Annoy everyone you meet. Staring at some gaudy shawl Heedless of the baby's squall, Untill the little shrieking pet Into the gutter is upset, Meeting such who would not try To avoid the Charge of Infantry.' One of a collection of sample comic valentines bound in a single volume, stored within a wooden case. On the spine of the case is a label 'Comic'. One of a series of valentine's cards relating to various trades.
