Printed Ephemera — 1840-1879
Card, valentine card
Comic, cruel valentine's card printed as a woodcut on cheap paper with a caricature of a man peering into a girl's window. The print is crudely coloured and below is printed a verse 'Haunt me no more, I pray good sir, And you a favour will confer. No more into my window peep, But at a proper distance keep, To tell plain truth, I do decline, A dandy doctor for a Valentine.' One of a collection of sample comic valentines bound in a single volume, stored within a wooden case. On the spine of the case is a label 'Comic'.
