Printed Ephemera — 1860-1869
Card, valentine card
Comic valentine's card printed as a woodcut on cheap paper with a caricature of a cuckold with antlers. The print is crudely coloured and below is printed a verse 'Poor wretched milksop fool whose spouse In this strange way adorns your brows; Dost take no shame to wear the horn, Or do you think it does that face adorn; Flesh of your flesh--bone of your bone, And yet you can't protect your own.' One of a collection of sample comic valentines bound in a single volume, stored within a wooden case. On the spine of the case is a label 'Comic'. One of a series of valentine's cards relating to various trades.
