Printed Ephemera — 1850-1869
Card, valentine card
Comic valentine's card printed as a woodcut on cheap paper with a caricature of a carriage driver. The print is crudely coloured and below is printed a cruel verse 'You are for ever bawling Bank or Charing Cross For brazen impudence you'd match a miller's horse; To such a low fellow indeed I don't incline, To accept you for my bawling Valentine.' One of a collection of sample comic valentine's bound in a single volume, stored within a wooden case. On the spine of the case is a label 'Comic'.
