Printed Ephemera — 1872-1899
Card, valentine card
Quarto sized Valentine's card with central aquatint showing two lovers, the woman seated at a piano, the man holding her hand. Bordered with hand painted design incorporating neptune and cupid figures and a verse 'Cease they frolic fingers play Along each ivory key conscious it shrinks less fair than they Cease and listen unto me. Hush every breeze and every ill In truth I'll ever love thee still'. With outer embossed floral border. The card bears the embossed address stamp of Jonathan King, presumably the publisher of the card. Such aquatints were originally published in the 1830's-1840's. This is a later reprint by King.
