Printed Ephemera — 1881-1895
Card, valentine card
Small mechanical valentine's card comprising a sheet of card printed with a coloured chromolithographed image of cupid dressed as a cobbler seated on a stall sewing a broken heart. The two arms of the cobbler are jointed and a length of thread is held between the hands. An embossed card tab extends from the bottom of the card. When the tab is moved up and down the arms move up and down to represent a sewing motion. Below the image is printed a four line verse 'Love turned cobbler thriving trade To mend the ills of wooing And you will find him pretty maid Work for the year ensuing!'
