Printed Ephemera — 1850-1860
Card, valentine card
Multi-layered, handfinished valentine's card comprising a top sheet of silver and white lace paper with a circular border design surrounding a central open area. The under sheet, by Windsor, has a narrow lace paper border surrounding a large, rectangular shaped panel. Applied to the centre of this sheet is a rice paper image, mounted on card, showing two handcoloured cupid figures floating on clouds, one playing the harp. This image is surrounded by two wreaths - the inner wreath formed from pressed cream satin leaves, the outer wreath of green embossed paper leaves and dried grasses. One of a collection of cards stored within a scrapbook compiled by Jonathan King numbered 'Volume 1166'.
