Printed Ephemera — 1855-1875
Card, valentine card
Handfinished valentine's card comprising a top sheet of silver and white lace paper embossed with a vine, leaf and scroll design surrounding a central panel of cotton net. Applied to the net is a printed paper cut out 'scrap' of a flying cupid figure above a garland of cream satin leaves and pink fabric flowers and below a garland of embossed coloured paper leaves and flowers and the gilded lettering 'I Love U'. On the inner sheet is applied a wreath of silver and white embossed paper leaves. This can be seen beneath the cotton net when the card is closed and acts as a frame for the applied gilded lettering. One of a collection of cards stored within a scrapbook compiled by Jonathan King numbered 'Volume 1166'.
