Tallis's London street views : No. 72. Oxford Street, division 6
Issue number 72 of Tallis's 'London street views' showing nos. 201-260 Oxford Street. The featured property in this issue is the Royal Palace, Kensington. In 1689 William III purchased Nottingham House in Kensington for £20,000 from the Earl of Nottingham, and had the original Jacobean mansion extended under the direction of Christopher Wren. Occupation by the reigning monarch continued until the death of George II, although Princess Victoria lived at the palace until she became queen in 1837 and moved into Buckingham Palace. During most of her reign the palace was neglected.
