Printed Ephemera — 1855-1860
Card, valentine card
Multi-layered, handfinished valentine's card comprising an undersheet of cream cotton net with a cream lace paper border. Attached above by means of paper springs are sections and panels of silver and white lace paper which, together, form a classical garden scene with pillars, archways, walkways, flowers, a gazebo and classical figures - a pair of lovers reclining and a pair of handcoloured classical figures walking. The card is also decorated with tinsel stars and a paper cartouche printed 'May Happiness be ever Thine'. One of a collection of cards stored within a scrapbook compiled by Jonathan King numbered 'Volume 1166'.
