Printed Ephemera — 1856-1860
Card, valentine card
Multi-layered, handfinished valentine's card comprising an under sheet with a white lace paper border surrounding a central panel of cotton net gauze. Through the gauze can be seen decoration applied to the inner sheet below comprising a conch shell shaped piece of silver and white embossed paper decorated with a central image of a cottage. Surrounding the net is an additional silver and white lace paper border attached by paper springs to give a raised effect. Applied above the net is an embossed coloured paper figure of a red riding hood figure walking in the countryside, an applied garland of cotton fabric leaves flowers with gilded lettering reading 'Love & Truth'.
