Printed Ephemera — 1855-1860
Card, valentine card
Multi-layered, handfinished valentine's card comprising a top border of silver and white lace paper embossed with a design of a riverbank scene with, at the bottom, an image of a reclining male figure. Applied to this border is a frosted paper leaf, originally part of a larger garland now missing and an embossed, coloured paper bird. Below this border is a narrow, cream lace paper border framing a large cream satin panel. Applied to the panel a handcoloured cut out paper figure of a woman holding a basket standing on a silver and white lace paper bridge. Above are applied silver and white lace paper scalloped drapes with an applied coloured paper bird and gilded paper star.
