Printed Ephemera — 1855-1860
Card, valentine card
Handfinished valentine's card comprising a white lace paper border embossed with a garden design surrounding a panel of white cotton satin. Applied to the satin is a handcoloured, cut out figure of a flying angel on a rice paper cloud holding aloft a floral wreath and framed by a gilded lace paper archway. Below is applied a cameo embossed silver paper bird bath by Windsor, the base formed from cherubic figures, with two cut out embossed coloured painted birds hovering above. Flanking the panel are garlands of silver paper leaves and coiled wire flowers covered with green and pink plush.
