Printed Ephemera — 1850-1860
Card, valentine card
Multi-layered, handfinished valentine's card comprising two embossed and white lace paper borders attached, one above the other, by paper springs surrounding an applied panel of cream cotton net gauze. Applied to the gauze are cameo embossed figures of cupid above rice paper clouds and two classical figures receiving floral wreaths from a cherub. Below is an applied garland of fabric, gilded paper and frosted leaves embellished with coiled wire buds covered with pink plush. Flanking the panels are white feathers studded with blue plush covered wire buds.
