Printed Ephemera — 1855-1860
Card, valentine card
Multi-layered, handfinished valentine's card comprising two identical white lace paper borders embossed with a foliage and garden design attached, one above the other, by paper springs surrounding an applied panel of cream satin. Applied to the satin is a silver and white embossed and lace paper archway framing a handpainted cut out paper figure of a young boy seated on a garland swing. Above are applied two embossed paper cupid figures and a gilded paper 'Love'. The card is also decorated with an applied wreath of white feathers studded with circles of wire covered with green plush and a garland of coloured embossed paper leaves with a central rice paper flower.
