Card, valentine card
Multi-layered, handfinished valentine's card comprising a panel of cream satin framed by two lace paper borders attached one above the other by paper springs. The top border is of silver and white and is perforated and embossed to incorporate two side drapes, flowers and foliage. Applied to the satin panel is a silver and white embossed paper vase filled with embossed coloured paper leaves and flowers. The flowers are raised by a paper spring inserted below. At the bottom of the card is a paper cartouche printed 'Dear one Forget me Not'. The card is stamped with the maker's design diamond registration mark dated 1855. One of a collection of cards stuck within a scrapbook by Jonathan King numbered Volume 37. This card is attached to page 31 headed '2/6 valentine each in a seperate box No 36'.
