Printed Ephemera — 1856-1857
Card, valentine card
Multi-layered, handfinished valentine's card formed from two sheets with an identical lace paper border design attached, one above the other, by means of paper springs. The undersheet is white, the top sheet is part coloured silver, the border design incorporates a pillared archway with top drapes with a scalloped edge. In the centre of the undersheet is applied a cream satin panel decorated with an applied gilded wedding ring framed by an gilded paper wreath embellished with blue paper flowers. Applied to the lower half of the open area is a white embossed paper image of cupid placing a ring on the finger of a bride.
