Printed Ephemera — 1856-1857
Card, valentine card
Incomplete handfinished valentine's card comprising a sheet of white lace paper heavily embossed with a border design incorporating long drapes, foliage, flowers and vases framing a central area divided into two sections. The top half comprises a central roundel of applied blue cotton net with an applied gilded paper vase filled with embossed coloured paper flowers and leaves. The central medallion below is decorated with a cameo embossed image of cupid figures at rest, one painting on an easel. The card is incomplete as it does not have an inner or back sheet.
