Printed Ephemera — 1856-1857
Card, valentine card
Incomplete handfinished valentine's card comprising a sheet of white lace paper heavily embossed with a border design incorporating classical and cupid figures, urns and foliage framing centrally applied cream satin panel. Applied to the panel is a gilded embossed paper urn filled with coloured, embossed paper flowers. Below is applied a garland of embossed coloured paper flowers and leaves. The card is incomplete as it does not have an inner or back sheet. One of a collection of cards stuck within a scrapbook compiled by J.King numbered '37'. This card is applied to 'page 10' of the scrapbook headed '6d Octavo German No. 12'.
