Card, valentine card
Handfinished valentine's card comprising a top sheet of white lace paper heavily embossed with an image of a classical garden with a female figure, garden wall, urns and a gazebo surrounding a centrally applied oval panel of textured paper. This panel is handpainted with a floral garland and two butterflies. Below is applied a paper scroll printed 'Bound with affection'. Inserted beneath this sheet is a plain, lilac sheet intended to enhance the detail of the lace paper above. One of a collection of cards stuck within a scrapbook compiled by J.King numbered '37'. This card is applied to a page headed '12 mo Lace hand painted valentines on rice or satin No.4'.
