Shoe, mule
One of a pair of woman's mules (with 30.76a). Supposed to have been worn by Henrietta Maria, Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland (1609-1669), wife of King Charles I.
Continental (?, due to heel). Crimson velvet decorated with raised silver thread and sequin embroidery on vamp; gold braid. Black leather heel cover. White kid rand. Leather sole. Toe is 1.3 cm square at sole, 2.7 cm at upper; mitred corners. Louis heel, 8 cm (H); covered with black leather; cream stitched; D shaped top-piece of fawn felt (for indoor use). Straight sole; worn; stitched in shallow channel (10 per 2.5 cm); rough finish; brown edge finish; 1+1 nail holes; peg missing; peg hole on heel breast (?). White kid rand construction. Overhanging toe. High cut vamp extending to within 2.5 cm of back. Lining ivory and green painted (?) silk vamp crepeline conservation with ivory silk at throat (1.9 cm). Tan leather interlining or side lining just visible through damage. Red silk velvet with green and ivory striped selvedge on one three-quarter sock, a full sock on the other coming to a point. Brown leather insole continued arrow shaped to form puff. White kid bound around back of heel.
The embroidery and red silk velvet is very good quality. The extra lining uncommon.
