Printed Ephemera — 1830
Mr Ducrow as Harlequin
Uncoloured theatrical souvenir portrait plate printed with an engraving of the actor Mr Ducrow dressed as a Harlequin standing on horseback. Such portraits would have been sold plain as theatrical souvenirs for colouring and tinselling at home. The engraving is also signed 'R Lloyd d.so' implying that Lloyd was the engraver/artist as well as the publisher.
Ducrow was known as 'The Great Ducrow' for his equestrian performance skills. He had worked with his father at South London's illegitimate theatres at the start of the century. Ducrow and his father worked at the Surrey Theatre together and the younger Ducrow went on to give many impressive performances.
