Printed Ephemera — 1850-1872
Mrs W. West as Desdemona
Handcoloured theatrical souvenir plate engraved with a portrait of the actress Mrs W. West in the role of Desdemona. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments, notably on the dress accessories, headress and jewellery. The clothing is of shaded silk. The portrait has been cut from a paper sheet and mounded onto card handcoloured with background scenery. The portrait was probably published by Alexander Archibald Park and mounted on card and tinselled by Redington & King. At the bottom of the mounting card is printed 'Coloured & sold wholesale & retail by J.Redington, at his Theatrical Print, Play & Tinsel Warehouse 208 Hoxton Old Town and Jonathan King, 45 Chapel St., Somers Town'.
