The Lodge, in Richmond Park, the residence of Philip Medows Esq. This is Thatched House Lodge, built in 1673, enlarged by Robert Walpole for his son, with a thatched summer house or gazebo (hence the name from 1771). General Sir William Medows (1738-1813) and his wife were tenants from 1769 to 1785. He was the third son of Philip Medows (1708-1781), deputy ranger of Richmond Park, and had a successful career in the army and as a colonial administrator.
