Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1809-1820
New Prison, Clerkenwell
New Prison, Clerkenwell, reportedly in 1809 - as rebuilt in 1775 [if Clerkenwell House of Detention] or [if Cold bath Fields Prison] built in 1794. Name "S Newcom[?]" may be engraved on wall.
Matches entrance to Middlesex House of Detention (Clerkenwell) as drawn by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd (c.1847) and J.P. Emslie (c.1886). The 1775 entrance therefore seems to have been retained in 1818 and 1867 rebuildings.
