Principal Gate of St Bartholomews Hospital
Principal Gate of St Bartholomews Hospital. This was built in 1702 by Edward Strong; the statue, by Francis Bird, is of Henry VIII, who refounded the hospital in 1544, seven years after his dissolution of the Augustinian abbey impoverished the hospital, first founded in 1123 and the oldest in London.
