Lord Nelson's Villa at Merton
Lord Nelson's Villa at Merton - Merton Place, built 1699 on a site south of the High Street; it was owned by Nelson, who lived here with Sir William & Lady Emma Hamilton 1801-5. Sold after his death, it was demolished c. 1823. For Dr Hughson's Description of London.
The water for the ornamental canal and moat, seen in the foreground of the print, was diverted from the nearby River Wandle.
