Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1815-25
Thomas Goodwin DD
Thomas Goodwin DD - the Elder, 1600-1680, who entered Cambridge University at the age of 12, went briefly into exile as a Puritan, returned at the start of the Civil War and was appointed president of Magdalen College, Oxford. He was one of a commission that in 1658 drew up the Savoy Declaration of the Congregational Churches. On the restoration he was ejected from Oxford, moved to London with many of his congregation and preached (illegally) at Fetter Lane Independent Church. He lost half his library in the Great Fire - the half he had removed from his home for safety. See http://www.puritansermons.com/bio/biogoodw.htm.
