Thos. Cranmer, A.Bp. of Canterbury 1533. Thomas Cranmer (1489-1556) was made Archbishop of Canterbury by Henry VIII in 1533 and presided over the creastion of the Church of England and the divorce and remarriage of the King and the dissolution of the monasteries. He was burnt at the stake under the Catholic Mary having supported the claim of Lady Jane Grey to the throne.
