Dress

This printed synthetic jersey dress from about 1975 was designed by Lee Bender for Bus Stop. Bender, who studied at St Martin's School of Art and the London School of Fashion, set up her first Bus Stop shop in Kensington High Street in 1971. It sold accessibly priced clothes for young people. Bender designed the collections, accessories and print fabrics and controlled the image of the shop, which expanded into a chain of twelve stores nationwide. Bus Stop was franchised to stores in the United States, Canada, Singapore and Japan.

This close fitting dress has raglan sleeves extended at the front neckline to form a collar with long points. The two front panels of bodice are gathered over the breastbone to create a heart shaped neckline. The skirt is cut to be fuller at the front than the back.
