The collapsing facade of Nos. 23 & 25 Queen Victoria Street during the Blitz
This photograph shows the result of bomb damage to the premises of John Wood & Sons, Cigar & Tobacco Importers, 23 & 25 Queen Victoria Street, in the City of London. It was taken as the facade of the building collapsed on 11th May 1941. The night raid of 10th May was the most severe attack London had sustained throughout the Blitz.
Police Constables Arthur Cross and Fred Tibbs took this photograph after the area had been given the 'all clear' on the assumption it was reasonably safe to approach. They took three shots of the building: before, during and after its collapse.
