Printed Ephemera — 1851-1875
Card, valentine card
Handfinished, three dimensional valentine's card stored within an original cardboard box with a glass lid. The card comprises a layer of cream paper embossed with a border design by Mullord Brothers. The open areas of these borders reveal a central motif applied directly to the under sheet. This comprises an oval shaped silver embossed paper panel with an applied embossed, coloured paper 'scrap' representing a cherub holding aloft a garland of flowers. The card is also decorated with applied blue cotton flowers attached to paper covered wire stems. The box is of white card with a lace paper border applied to the inner sides, the lid has a glass panel framed by a gilded paper border.
