Printed Ephemera — 1860-1872
Prince Albert of Saxe Coburg
Handcoloured souvenir print engraved with a portrait of Prince Albert of Saxe Coburg on horseback. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the dress accessories and horse blanket. The clothing is of silk and cotton. The portrait has been cut from a paper sheet and mounted on card handcoloured with background scenery. Such portraits would have been sold plain for colouring and tinselling at home.
This is a reprint of an original portrait issued in 1840 prior to the marriage of Prince Albert & Queen Victoria.
