Mdlle Theodore as Columbine
Souvenir theatrical portrait of the dancer Mdlle Theodore in the role of Columbine. The portrait is embellished with metal foil tinsel ornaments notably on the jewellery and dress accessories. The clothing is of silk decorated with applied metal foil flowers & leaves. Above her head she carries a garland of metal foil and embossed paper flowers. The portrait has been handcoloured, cut from a paper sheet and mounted on card painted with background scenery. Below the title are printed the publishers details 'Coloured & sold Wholesale & Retail by J.Redington, at his Theatrical Print, Play, & Tinsel Shop, 208 Hoxton Old Town and Jonathan King 45, Chapel St., Somers Town.' Such portraits would have been sold uncoloured or coloured for tinselling at home. Pre-punched tinsel ornaments could be purchased from the publisher.
