Printed Ephemera — 1851
Card, valentine card
Handfinished valentine's card comprising a top sheet with a central panel surrounded by a lace paper border outlined in blue and green. Applied to the centre is a paper roundel with an applied pink paper heart and arrow framed by a silver embossed paper wreath. The card is also decorated with two applied floral garlands of coloured and embossed paper flowers and leaves. Handwritten on the panel is the message 'Softly gently o'er one stealing Every hope of love revealing'. Inside is handwritten 'Jordan Wharfdale Rd Kings Cross 1851 Jordan's work'. This information presumably refers to the name of the worker who handfinished the card.
