Printed poster promoting the Christmas children's pantomime Forty Thieves which opened at the Drury Lane Theatre on 26th December 1898. The poster is illustrated with a portrait of Dan Leno in the starring role of Abdullah, Captain of the Forty Thieves. This popular pantomime was written by Arthur Sturgess and Arthur Collins.
Dan Leno was born in London in 1860. He first performed at Drury Lane Theatre in 1889 and quickly became the Theatre's most popular pantomime Dame returning in that role for several years.
