Printed Ephemera — 1860-1880
Card, valentine card
Valentine's card printed with an uncoloured central image of a returning sailor being greeted by his lover. The print is oval shaped and framed by a decorative outer border. Above and below is printed 'Now now my dear Poll I'm landed again, and shiners great plenty have got. Let us join Hand & Heart never to part But share for ever our lot'. Such Sailor's Valentines were very popular during the early years of the 19th Century and this card is a reprint of an earlier Regency design.
